Open University

Microsite development targets specific demographic and increases engagement.

Client

The Open University is Britain's largest university with more than 200,000 people studying its courses on-line and through its distance learning programs. Since its establishment by royal charter in 1969, it has opened the door to higher education for more than 2 million people.

Challenge

The challenge presented was to conceptualise and develop a microsite, a specialised website targeting a particular audience subset within the university's larger ecosystem. The goal was to curate a focused online platform tailored to meet the specific needs and interests of this audience segment. The microsite aimed to deliver precise and relevant information, fostering enhanced engagement and interaction with the targeted group.

Solution

Thirdsound ICT embarked on a tailored approach, meticulously analysing the audience's preferences and requirements to design and craft a bespoke microsite. This involved a comprehensive process encompassing ideation, design, and development, where the team collaborated closely with the university to understand the audience's needs, ensuring alignment with the university's overarching objectives.

Results

The microsite project yielded several tangible outcomes:

  • Enhanced User Experience (UX): Designed with the audience in mind, the microsite offered an intuitive, user-friendly interface, optimising engagement and navigation for the specific user group.

  • Targeted Information Delivery: The microsite successfully delivered specific, pertinent information catering precisely to the targeted audience's needs and interests.

  • Increased Engagement and Interaction: By tailoring content and features, the microsite fostered increased engagement and interaction among the targeted audience, facilitating a more personalised and focused online experience.

  • Alignment with University Objectives: The microsite aligned seamlessly with the university's broader objectives, serving as an effective tool to address the specific needs of the identified audience segment.
